Playmate Lure
Predators know that kids like to play and do fun things. Becoming involved with kids can create lures that children will find enticing. A popular method used by predators is to become a playmate. This lure is most often used on kids who are alone or who appear to have low self-esteem. The predator will always try to attract their intended victim with something they lack. In this case it's attention by offering toys, games, and any other type of fun activity. Later, they may introduce drugs, alcohol, pornography or sexual interaction to the mix. While the largest segment of this type of predator is adults, there is an increasing number, approximately 20 percent, who are children. That's why it's important to know with whom your children are playing or associating with. You should be wary of any older child or young adult who suddenly shows interests in your child. (Children should inform you anytime they begin to plaly with a new friend. Children should not be allowed to pay with anyone who is unwilling to meet their parent(s).)
