Are You A Winner or A Whiner?

Hello NAK Team,

Winners are positive, optimistic, pro-active and excited about their goals and activities in life....
Whiners are negative, pessimistic, re-active and love to whine about everything and anything....
Winners develop self-discipline in order to bring out their absolute best in themselves and in others....
Whiners lack discipline of their minds and are often critical of themselves and others....
Winners condition their minds and bodies for Peak Performance in and out of the dojo....
Whiners blame others for their problems and always make excuses for Poor Performance in and out of the dojo....
Winners give value to others, they train hard and make a positive contribution to their team....
Whiners love to moan, groan and complain, and their negative attitude takes away from their team....
Winners brighten up a room when they enter....
Whiners brighten it up as they exit....

CHAMPIONS ARE ALWAYS WINNERS - NEVER WHINERS!

7 Nutrition Tips For Swimsuit Season

It's getting close to that time of year again! You know what time it is Swimsuit time. Are you ready? Now is the time to start thinking about changing up your nutrition plan so that you can look and feel better when it's time to put your bathing suit on. One of the most common questions my patients ask me is, What's the best diet plan? Unfortunately there is no easy answer, but I've put together some basic guidelines to follow to make the process easier. Here are some helpful tips for getting lean for summer.

1. Increase your protein: Each meal should have a good balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. First think lean protein in each meal (egg whites, lean beef, chicken, tuna), and then add a slow burning carbohydrate (vegetables, oatmeal, brown rice, yams). By combining foods this way, your blood sugar levels are more consistent and your body is more likely to use body fat as an energy source.
2. Cut out the bread/white rice altogether for 3 weeks: This includes tortillas. When you do reintroduce it into your diet, choose only sprouted grain breads or low carb tortillas.
3. Never miss a breakfast: Most people dont even eat breakfast. To get used to it, slowly bring in your favorite foods during that time of the day. After a while, you will develop an appetite.
4. Lose weight slowly: 2 to 2 1/2 per week is about right. Losing weight faster than that will result in a loss of muscle tissue. Muscle tissue is the most metabolically active tissue in the body, and it actually helps you burn calories.
5. Eat foods high in fiber. They aid in the regulation of the gastrointestinal system. They also bind with fats, so they are less absorbable to the body. Great sources are raw fruits and vegetables, oatmeal (not the instant kind), and grain products.
6. Eating well begins at the store! Don't shop for food when you are hungry, and buy only nutritious foods that are part of your nutrition plan. This will remove any temptation to eat junk, highly processed foods that are of little nutritional value when you are at home. If you don't buy it, it isn't in your house and you can't eat it.
7. Clean and sweep your refrigerator and cupboards for forbidden foods. The old saying out of sight out of mind is true! If is not in your cupboard, you are less likely to have a craving for it late at night.
